Collab No.2 completed! Well done to all those who participated, the standard of playing we have round these parts is simply staggering!
As a bit of a difference to the last one I have asked an independant expert to evaluate all the takes and give us his wisdom, a certain Mr ShadyDave of Shred-reviews.co.uk
Over to you Davey boy....
"Drk 0.00-1.08
Post 90?s metal/grunge groove as we might expect from DrK. Atmospheric
and tasty lead, interesting note choice, nice tone - played "for the
song" quite beautifully.
Sted 1.08-2.12
Grovin' harmonic riffery and wah-inflected solo. Couple of bum notes
but again, fitting the rhythm and plenty of attitude. I thought the
tone with the wah active was very cool, and the rhythm tone slightly
less so but overall perhaps a little work on vibrato?
Cderycke 2.13-3.16
Mean swamp blues and Howlin? Wolf style use of space. Tasty wah tones
and a dirty, nasty tone which fit the style very well but perhaps a
little repetitive. Try developing the ideas you have more fully as
they're stylistically sound and played with some great feel.
Meanomachine 3.17-4.21
Slightly out of key clean section seques into Black-Sabbath style
riffing and a brave attempt at a solo - learn them scales my son. Tone
could do with being more distinct ? very bass heavy but did remind me
of Tony Iommi which is no bad thing.
Voodoorider 4.21-5.25
RATM-esque harmonies and attitude, nice harmony bends, bit of nasty
shred to spice proceedings up and yeah, definite shades of Tom Morello.
Fredtheshred 5.26-6.30
Zakk Wylde-style intro riffing and typically accomplished solo
suddenly mutates into an nice queen-style harmony section to close.
Again, Fred's experience and knowledge come to the fore.
Grey 6.31-7.34
Nice use of octaves and almost reminds me a little of Korn in places ?
heavy, bit muffled tone but a dark and menacing contender with
agressive pick attack with more great use of space and dissonance.
Monty 7.35-8.38
Post-thrash/black vibe and some wicked tremolo picking with an
abrasive, aggressive tone?.drifted slightly out of key towards the end
but retained the attitude and only needed some growling vocals to be
complete.
Walliman 8.39-end
Nice octave-effected intro, groove-laden rhythm which locked tightly
with the drums (a very important skill) and a tasty but understated
lead and a very smooth tone. Again, a very experienced player with
lots of technical and theoretical knowledge - a very polished ending
to a great collaborative effort.
The standard has improved since the last and my goodness, I can't wait
to hear the next one if you all keep improving and impressing like this."
Once again, big thanks to all those who contributed, look out for the next collab, next time with a twist!!
